(MUNCIE) - Delaware County officials have requested the state help investigate the November Muncie mayor election.
The election has been plagued by allegations of vote fraud since Jim Mansfield's 11 vote win November 6th. Sharon McShurley sought a recount and was certified the winner by 13 votes in mid-December. Mansfield is currently seeking a special election in one precinct.
Delaware County Prosecutor Mark McKinney sought help from Attorney General Steve Carter to investigate the election and recount.
Carter and McKinney feel a joint investigation is the best way to find any possible criminal activity, while not allowing county residents to feel their prosecutor is covering up anything.
The state has teamed up with local prosecutors once before. A joint investigation in Lake County produced numerous convictions.
