(STATEHOUSE) - Governor Mitch Daniels Wednesday signed the first bill of the 2008 general session to pass both sides into law.
The Great Lakes Compact is an eight-state accord to keep control of the Great Lakes in the Midwest and Northeast.
Daniels says Indiana is the first state to sign the compact into law. The compact came about in late 2005 and also includes two Canadian provinces.
Daniels other states need to follow Indiana's lead to ensure the Great Lakes' survival for generations to come.
