Carter Testifies Before House Committee

Last updated on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

(STATEHOUSE) - The state’s attorney general testified on two bills before a House committee Tuesday.

Steve Carter spoke before the House Judiciary Committee on a bill requiring transparency in where casino revenue goes and a bill mandating a public official convicted of felony be removed from office at the time of the conviction.

There are current bills dealing with both issues, but Carter says more transparency is needed to see what kinds of organizations receive gaming revenue after problems with an East Chicago casino. He also says the felony conviction bill is needed after three East Chicago Council members convicted of felonies did not step down for six months following their convictions.

Both of the bills originated in the Senate and were passed by the committee.
