Bill Would Establish Central Voting Centers Instead Of Neighborhood Precincts

Last updated on Tuesday, February 19, 2008

(EVANSVILLE) - A bill that would make changes in the way Hoosiers vote is making it’s way through the state legislature this year.

The bill would establish central voting centers by doing away with traditional neighborhood precincts.

Vanderburgh County Clerk Susie Kirk Likes the idea. Kirk says another bill that might be considered this year would require all schools to close on election days which would allow them to be used in that capacity.

Another provision of the current bill would allow people to vote absentee by mail without giving a reason, something Kirk says she has a few concerns about. She says hopefully, people would be honest and the person who sends the absentee ballot in would really be the person who signed it.
