State Senator Asks Gov. Daniels To Consider "Fair Tax" System
(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Mike Delph is asking Governor Mitch Daniels to reconsider his stance on the elimination of property taxes and asking for bold leadership in shifting Indiana to a “fair tax” system.
The Carmel Republican hand delivered a letter to the governor. The letter asks Daniels to have his budget director and other state fiscal experts examine data on a complete shift to a broader based sales tax which would give taxpayers more discretion and choice.
Delph said he would like the governor to run the numbers on what it would take to completely eliminate property taxes, at least on residential property.
Calling it a breach of the public trust, Delph said government should never put people in the position of surprising them with outrageous bills.
Delph represents portions of Hamilton and Marion counties.
