Plans Set For 7th District Congressional Election
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Preparations are underway for the special election to fill the 7th District congressional seat of the late Julia Carson.
Governor Mitch Daniels issued an order Monday, setting Tuesday March 11th as the date for the election.
The caucuses for Republicans and Democrats will meet this weekend to choose their candidates.
District 7 covers just 474 of the 590 precincts in Marion County.
County Clerk Beth White says one of the challenges they face is that March 11th is not a holiday for city, county and state employees, as is usually the case in May and November so many of the people working the precincts won't have the day off from their regular job.
White says they plan to use the same schools, public buildings, churches, apartments and other locations they've used as polling places in May and November.
