Pharmacy Bill Deadlocked At Statehouse

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bill to let pharmacists claim conscientious objections to dispensing certain drugs is in limbo due to the illnesses of two senators.
The Senate deadlocked 24-24 on a proposal to let pharmacists refuse to fill prescriptions for drugs that cause abortions, or if they fear the patient is planning suicide.
Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman can break 25-25 ties, but the absences of Republican David Ford and Democrat Glenn Howard mean neither side has enough votes yet to settle the issue. The bill can be called back next week for another try.
Opponents charge the bill could be used to block not only abortion drugs but birth control.
