New Bill Gives Jail Time To Hoosiers Who Don't Report Dead Bodies
(INDIANAPOLIS) - You could go to jail for up to a year if you discover a dead body and don’t report it…under a bill approved by the Indiana House Tuesday: legislators voted unanimously to make it a misdemeanor not to report a dead body within three hours.
Some lawmakers grumbled the House is passing laws for what should be common sense. Michigan City Democrat Scott Pelath says a couple in his district found out when their son died last year that it isn't obvious to everyone.
Indianapolis Democrat Vanessa Summers is a funeral director. She says she's seen firsthand what families go through when deaths aren't reported promptly.
