Lawmakers Predict Tax Crisis Outcome

Last updated on Monday, January 21, 2008

(STATEHOUSE) - Can the lawmakers make good on the promise—and resolve the tax crisis?

The state senator who sits at the head of the table for tax and fiscal policy expects some form of Governor Daniels' property tax plan to pass. As many as 60 amendments are expected.

Luke Kenley of Noblesville predicts the legislature will approve the major property tax reduction the governor has proposed. Then, with property taxes not "so relevant" as he puts it, Kenley says there could be discussion of abolishing the property tax.

He also says the legislature suffers from too many agendas from different ideas. He says legislators really need to focus on the governor's plan, which he says is gaining a lot of acceptance among the public.

Both the House and Senate will resume their sessions Tuesday.
