(STATEHOUSE) - It’s deadline day in the Indiana House—the last chance for the chamber to pass its own bills.
After today, the House and Senate will be reviewing and tinkering with each other's bills. The Senate wrapped up work on its own bills a day early, but 44 House bills must be approved today or be all but dead for the year.
The House is done with property tax legislation for now, but there are still bills pending on whether milk can be labeled "hormone-free," proposed licensing requirements for adult bookstores, and what's expected to be a long debate on tightening regulations on mortgage lenders.
On Tuesday, the House yanked a proposed property-tax circuit breaker from the floor to avert a potential floor fight over an attempt to attach a gay-marriage ban to it. The Senate has already passed the circuit breaker, so the proposal is still alive.
