(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis is trimming the number of voter precincts by nearly a third in an effort to save money and require 1,500 fewer poll workers.
Instead of 917 polling places, the city will be only 590, saving about $180,000 each election.
Mayor Bart Peterson approved the plan last week and a spokesman for mayor-elect Greg Ballard welcomed the change.
Some precincts opened late and others never opened in last May's primary due to a shortage of poll workers.
