(TERRE HAUTE) - A recount is underway in the Terre Haute mayor’s race.
A three-member court-appointed commission recounted the first of 51 precincts Monday.
Democratic Mayor Kevin Burke had asked for a recount shortly after he lost to Republican Bennett by 107 votes among some 12,000 cast in the November 6th election.
He also challenged Bennett's candidacy, arguing that Bennett was ineligible for mayor because he works for a mental-health agency that receives federal money.
Campaign finance reports also show that agency might have violated federal tax law by contributing to political campaigns, including to both candidates in the mayor's race.
