Indiana House Race Shaping Up
(INDIANAPOLIS) - The field is taking shape in two Indianapolis districts that will help determine who controls the Indiana House next year.
Republicans Larry Buell and Jon Elrod won their seats last year by a combined 520 votes. Both of them are retiring, with Elrod running for a seat in congress instead.
Social studies teacher John F. Barnes, who lost to Buell by three percentage points, says he'll make another try. And charter schools consultant Mary Ann Sullivan has announced she's running for Elrod's seat.
Sullivan's entry sets up a Democratic primary against city-county councilor Dane Mahern, whose father Ed held the seat for five terms before his eight-vote loss to Elrod. No republicans have announced their candidacies yet.
Democrats now hold a 51-49 majority in the House. In case of a 50-50 tie, the party which wins the governor's race would control the chamber.
