(WASHINGTON D.C.) - Area Congressman Baron Hill has announced a bill he and fellow Nebraska Congressman Lee Terry have been working on should make it through the house and raise “CAFE” standards for automobile manufacturers.
CAFE standards, or Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, regulate the average fuel economy of vehicles an auto manufacturer sells.
Latest rumors have been floating about saying standards could be raised as high as 35 miles per gallon by the year 2020, which could have a significant impact on offerings made by manufacturers, even going so far as calling into question the existence of American auto legends such as the Corvette and Mustang.
Hill says he is pleased, however, that separate standards have been set for cars and trucks, making the raise a little less draconian.
