Current Muncie Mayor To Fight Judge's Decision

(MUNCIE) - Muncie’s Democratic mayoral candidate is seeking a special election in a precinct where a recount commission disallowed 19 ballots, costing him the race.
An attorney for James Mansfield filed a petition contesting the election yesterday in Delaware Circuit Judge Wayne Lennington's court.
Mansfield won the November 6th election by 11 votes, but the recount commission certified Republican Sharon McShurley as the winner by a 13-vote margin.
Mansfield is seeking a special election in a precinct where 19 absentee votes for him were thrown out because they were not endorsed with the initials of representatives from both political parties. He says those voters deserve to have their votes counted.
McShurley is scheduled to become mayor Tuesday.
