(MUNCIE) - Delaware County Republicans are seeking a recount of Democrat Jim Mansfield’s 11-vote win in Muncie’s mayoral race.

GOP candidate Sharon McShurley says the election was so close she feels obligated to seek a recount. She says with two-thousand absentee ballots cast -- about one-sixth of the total -- there's a real possibility the outcome could change.

In at least one precinct, she says, there were more absentee votes than votes cast on-site.

State law requires a recount to be completed by December 20. Republicans have held city hall since 1991.
