Press And Community Leaders Setting Up Gubernatorial Debates

Last updated on Thursday, November 8, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS) - It’s the first of its kind in the nation - a group of press and community leaders has formed to set up next year’s gubernatorial debates.

The Indiana Debate Commission's goal is to bring the candidates and their respective platforms to a larger audience.

Terri Jett chairs the political science department at Butler University. She says the commission will act as a sort-of go-between for the campaigns and the media. The commission will arrange three debates, with the first tentatively slated for around Labor Day 2008

The commission is also working to foster a spirit of cooperation between the newspapers, radio, and television stations across the state.
