Legislators Recommend Property Tax Relief Plan
(STATEHOUSE) - Legislators have raised Governor Daniels’ opening bid on property-tax relief. Last month, Daniels proposed cutting homeowners’ taxes by one-third.
A bipartisan study commission has unanimously recommended a plan to cut those bills in half.
Like the governor, the panel calls for abolishing township assessors, and taking schools and child welfare off the property tax.
Instead of Daniels' one-point sales-tax hike, however, the plan is vague about how to raise the money.
