(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Sue Errington (D-Muncie) is filing two bills aimed at helping Hoosier parents manage family and work demands by creating family-friendly employment policies.

The first bill would establish a state tax credit for employers who make qualified child care expenditures on behalf of employees. The second would require an employer to provide paid leave to parents while attending school conferences, with certain restrictions.

A 2004 study by the U.S. Department of Labor found that 14 percent of all workers had access to employer assistance for child care.

The study also found that full-time, white-collar employees making an average hourly wage greater than 15 dollars to be the most likely to have access to these benefits.
