Senate Dems Have Propety Tax Plan Of Their Own
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Senate Democrats are laying out their own plan to deal with the property tax crisis.
This one would eliminate residential property taxes and increase the sales tax by 1% and the income tax by 1.5% while revamping the state income tax system.
Senate Minority Leader Richard Young (D-Milltown) says they want to see the state mirror the federal government when it comes to tax brackets. The plan will be put forth by Senator Lindel Hume (D-Princeton).
As for the governor's plan, Young says he expects it to undergo a major facelift over the next few months. Young says his caucus is also willing to participate in early committee hearings.
Senate Republicans want to have hearings on the various property tax proposals between Organization Day November 20th and the start of the general session January 8th.
