Mid-January Vote For Property Tax Plan?

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Daniels’ property-tax plan could come up for a vote in the senate as early as mid-January.
The Republican Senate will hold committee hearings in December, a month earlier than usual, and aim for a vote around the time they'd normally be just getting started.
President Pro Tem David Long says he hopes the Democratic House will follow suit to ensure any changes are in place in time to lower spring tax bills.
House and Senate GOP leaders say their members won't shy away from a sales-tax hike to bring property taxes down. House Minority Leader Brian Bosma says the governor's call for a constitutional amendment ensures the cuts will stick.
Bosma says as long as the money's the same, most lawmakers would much rather tax sales than property, and would even prefer sales taxes to income taxes. He notes 18% of sales taxes are paid by people from out of state.
