(INDIANAPOLIS) - A democratic legislator will introduce a bill next year to require domestic violence suspects to be jailed for at least eight hours after their arrest.

LaPorte Senator Jim Arnold says the requirement would amount to a "cooling off period" to give accused batterers time to calm down, and their alleged victims time to go to a shelter or get a protective order.
