(UNDATED) - The head of Indiana’s Gaming Commission says he expects Indiana casinos to hold their own against prospective competition across the state line.
Southern Michigan has opened an Indian casino, Chicago is moving toward two casinos, and gambling is an issue in the Kentucky governor's race.
Gaming Commission Executive Director Ernest Yelton says Indiana needs to be on guard against the increased competition. But he says big expansions at casinos in Lawrenceburg, Hammond and Michigan City will blunt the effect.
House Rules Chairman Scott Pelath, who represents Michigan City, called Yelton before an oversight committee to question whether the Hammond expansion could drain business from Michigan City's blue chip. Yelton says he expects the effect to be minimal.
