(UNDATED) - A mix of politicians, sports stars and others will steer the re-election campaign of Governor Mitch Daniels. The group includes both Democrats and Republicans.

James T. Morris is the campaign chairman. He is the former executive director of the United Nations World Food Program. He also has served as chairman of the Indianapolis Water Company and its parent company. Morris is a former Lilly endowment president, and he is a special advisor to the Indiana Pacers.

Harry Gonso has been tapped as chairman of the campaign steering committee. Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Tony George is among a small group serving as vice campaign chairs.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, former IndyCar driver Lyn St. James, and Forrest Lucas--whose last name is best known locally for Lucas Oil Stadium--along with more than 90 others are on the steering committee for the governor's re-election campaign.

Daniels is the only republican in the 2008 gubernatorial race. However, three democrats, Jim Schellinger, Richard Young, and Jill Long Thompson are in the race.
