(INDIANAPOLIS) - Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi has filed charges of theft and official misconduct against Lawrence Township Trustee Michael Hobbs.
According to the prosecutor's office, Hobbs used a 500 dollar check allotted for the Lawrence Township Historical Society to pay for his rent.
Part of his job as the trustee is to oversee the Castleton Fire Department. Chief of the Screening Division at the Prosecutor's Office Barbara Crawford says Hobbs instructed the Lawrence fire department chief to write the check to Harrison Park, which turned out to be his apartment complex.
Crawford says both the fire department chief and assistant chief have to sign any check, but in this case both believed it was to go to the historical society.
A warrant has been issued for Hobbs. Both of his charges are class D felonies.
