(MICHIGAN CITY) - A Michigan City woman has been charged with auto theft and identity theft after crashing her sister’s minivan into the car of Mayor Chuck Oberlie.
Police say the mayor was stopped at a red light when Melissa Barnett rear-ended her.
Officers issued her two tickets, which would have been the end of it...until a second accident call revealed Barnett had allegedly taken the van without her sister's permission, then gave her sister's name after the crash.
