Bosma Wants Property Tax Payment Installments
(STATEHOUSE) - The blame game over those skyrocketing property taxes continues.
House Republicans Wednesday afternoon called for what many already have--immediate relief. Their immediate solutions put the problem back into the hands of local governments.
House Republican Minority Leader Brian Bosma says they want local governments to allow homeowners to pay just what they owe for 2006 and then be able to pay the increases in installments, without penalty.
At the same time, Bosma says the department of local government finance should order immediate re-assessments for the counties taking the hardest hits, including Marion and Elkhart.
Bosma also says, while they aren't calling for a special session, House Republicans are "ready to go back to work, if needs be."
Bosma said repeatedly that they want to work with their democrat counterparts, but made mention that House Republicans tried and "failed" to bring property tax relief to Hoosiers during the 2007 general session, when Democrats controlled the house.
