(NEW CASTLE) - A state senator is speaking out about privatization.

Democrat Richard Young says the state and private industry are taking on a new role of offering services for a profit. Young points to the New Castle Correctional Facility.

Instead of importing prisoners from Arizona into a prison at New Castle, young says Governor Mitch Daniels and the commissioner of the Department of Corrections would be better advised to worry about Indiana inmates.

As it stands, young says the odds are stacked against an ex-con. He says repairs to damages caused by Arizona inmates during a riot at the New Castle prison have been completed and "paid-for" by the private company, which operates the prison.

However, Young says the company is not stepping forward to pay for other expenses. Young says the state should have known that problems would quickly surface, among inmates who were exposed to a special set of rules for one group and another set of rules for the Indiana inmates.
