Daniels "Optimistic" For State Health Insurance Bill
(UNDATED) - Governor Daniels says he’s optimistic the state’s new health-insurance package will help more Hoosiers quit smoking, even though the final bill includes far less money for smoking-cessation programs than he wanted.
Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation, the state's official smoking-reduction agency, had asked for a tripling of its budget.
That would restore funding cuts made during the state's 2001-2003 budget crisis, and bring spending in line with what national anti-smoking groups say is the amount of public-service advertising needed to make an impact.
