Several Mayors Around State Will Be Looking For Other Jobs

Last updated on Wednesday, May 9, 2007

(UNDATED) - Election Day turned at least 16 Indiana mayors into lame ducks.

Primary voters threw out incumbent mayors in 16 cities, including Kokomo and Seymour. In New Castle and Martinsville, former mayors gave the boot to their successors. Other mayors had narrow escapes: John Craig hung on by 11 votes in Petersburg, Dennis Whitesell won by 26 votes in Hartford City.

On the other hand, Kevin Burke became the first Terre Haute mayor since 1991 to survive the primary. And Monticello mayor Bob Fox won 64% of the vote despite being charged with theft a week before the election.
