Govenor's Sister Up For Job At Justice Deptartment

(UNDATED) - A former assistant attorney general is responding to reports that Indiana’s top prosecutor could be picked to become the U.S. Justice Department’s second-in-command.
Indianapolis attorney Deborah Daniels, who was appointed as an assistant attorney general by President Bush in 2001, believes U.S. Attorney for the Southern district of Indiana Susan Brooks would make an ideal Deputy Attorney General. Brooks currently leads the Attorney General's advisory committee.
Daniels, who is also the governor's sister, considers Brooks a close friend. She says the two have not discussed the vacancy. Current Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty plans to resign amid the furor over the firing of U.S. attorneys. He will remain at the department until late summer or until the Senate approves a successor. Daniels is now a partner at an Indianapolis-based law firm after leaving the department in 2005.
