(UNDATED) - The Indiana Attorney General’s office is reporting success in the first few months of the “Do Not Fax” law.
Attorney General Steve Carter says since the law's enforcement began in January, several hundred businesses and residents have filed complaints. Carter says officials are investigating all complaints and have made agreements with 3 mass telefax companies who are now in compliance with the law. The investigations have resulted in $6400 in fines.
Carter says the "Do Not Fax" law protects of small businesses and residents with fax machines from the expense of paper, toner, and the constant wear and tear of the machine.
Several companies who blindly send faxes claim they will cancel the fax if returned, but actually use the method to confirm viable fax numbers. He says the best way to combat any unsolicited faxes is to save the fax and report it to the attorney general's office.
