(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Daniels says the most important accomplishment of a new cigarette-tax hike will be its effect in nudging smokers to quit, and children not to start.
Daniels has signed into law the bill raising cigarette taxes 44 cents a pack.
Three-quarters of the money will go to a new health-insurance plan for low-income Hoosiers. The rest goes to smoking-cessation programs, Medicaid reimbursements to doctors, and other health initiatives.
