State Cigarette Tax Revival Attempt Falters
(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana Senate has beaten back an attempt to revive a proposed cigarette-tax hike.
Democrats tried to amend a hike into a bill on cigarette machines.
President Pro Tem David Long ruled the amendment out of order on procedural grounds, and a near-party-line vote upheld the ruling. Long says he's been working with Democrats in both chambers and with House Republicans to find a way to resuscitate the tax plan, and says he's disappointed senate democrats tried to score points with what he calls a "confrontational" approach.
