Lawmakers Hoping For Property Tax Resolve

(STATEHOUSE) - Legislators in both parties say they’re determined to deliver more than a short-term fix on property taxes.
But they have only until Sunday to work out the best means of accomplishing it. The likely approval of slot machines for Indiana's two horse-racing tracks creates an extra pool of money for property-tax reform, though the amount of money and passage of the slots bill itself are not assured.
Senator Luke Kenley (R-Noblesville) says the most meaningful relief would come from shifting all school funding to the state, a move he says would save taxpayers $70-million.
