Moible Home Bill Headed For Daniels' Desk
(STATEHOUSE) - A bill requiring weather radios in mobile homes is headed for Governor Daniels.
The House voted 70-10 to order manufacturers to equip trailers with a radio which automatically broadcasts storm warnings.
Representative Phil Hoy (D-Evansville) authored the bill after tornadoes killed 25 people in Evansville and Newburgh in 2005, all of them in mobile homes. He says the requirement could have saved some of those lives, at a cost he says will be negligible: an estimated $29.
Hoy had proposed hard-wiring the radios into the mobile homes, but the final bill requires only that the builder supply a radio.
