(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana General Assembly has adjourned for the year after narrowly approving a new two-year budget, including $550-million in property-tax relief.

Legislators approved a quarter-million-dollar fee for each of Indiana's horse-racing tracks to install slot machines. That money will pay for property-tax relief, slashing this year's average tax hike from 24% to 8%.

The budget squeaked through the House along party lines, as Republicans complained there was room to cut taxes further. House Majority Leader Russ Stilwell (D-Boonville) says Democrats will be happy to tell voters the GOP voted no. The budget passed the Senate on a bipartisan 41-9 vote, 40 minutes before the midnight deadline.
