Gay Marriage Ban Dead In The Water
(STATEHOUSE) - A proposed amendment banning gay marriage in Indiana is dead—at least for now.
The constitutional amendment, known as Senate Joint Resolution 7 (SJR-7) was defeated Tuesday by the House Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee with 5-5 vote.
Democrats who voted against the proposed amendment did not oppose the first section, defining marriage between a man and a woman, but say a second section of the amendment was ambiguous--and for that, they could not support it.
Although the amendment is likely deadly this session, it could be brought back for another vote next year.
