(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Vi Simpson saw an amendment to the state budget seeking money for full-day kindergarten go down to defeat.
Simpson's amendment would have phased in full-day-kindergarten next year and seen it completely in place by the 2009-2010 school year.
The defeat is not just one for the Democratic senator, but also for Governor Daniels, who's made full-day kindergarten one of his top priorities for the current session.
