(STATEHOUSE) - A bill submitted for the governor’s approval could allow schools more police authority.

The law would mandate that schools hold at least one tornado drill each year and two drills practicing evacuation in the event of a man-made emergency.

Additionally, schools would be required to update their written emergency plans and submit blueprints of all campus buildings to local police and fire departments.

Schools could also decide whether to incorporate a separate school police department.
