Attorney General Carter Fights Automated Dialing Services
(UNDATED) - Is it a right to free speech or just a nuisance? Indiana attorney general Steve Carter took his case against automated dialing services to federal court in Chicago Tuesday.
Carter says the state led the nation by passing the first law against automated dialing back in 1988. Carter says the companies claim this is a violation of their right to free speech.
Carter says calls about political campaigns and credit card offers are nothing more than an annoyance to Hoosiers. Carter filed a lawsuit last year against the website freeeats.com, alleging violations of the state statute.
Through various appeals, the case ended up in the hands of Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago.
No word yet on a ruling. Carter says it could come in a matter of weeks or months.
