State Senator Bowser Loses Fight With Cancer
(STATEHOUSE) - State Senator Anita Bowser died Sunday.
The Democrat from Michigan City, known for her fight for the "forgotten people," lost her battle to breast cancer at an Indianapolis hospice.
Friend and fellow Democratic Senator Earline Rogers of Gary says Bowser decided to keep her fight with cancer private. "She didn't want that to be known publicly. She wanted to work as long as she could," Rogers said.
Bowser was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1980; she was elected as a state senator in 1992. Bowser was 86 years-old.
