State Legislation Being Left Behind
(STATEHOUSE) - Today marks the second half of the state legislative session, and in addition to well-publicized bills, some under-the-radar legislation will also be left behind this year.
Senator Dennis Kruse introduced a bill that would have banned the use of handheld cell phones while driving. Kruse brought the bill to the state house after he crashed his car while talking on his phone. The bill never received a hearing.
Another bill would have eliminated the state's practice of charging fees for families to rent school textbooks. Indiana is one of ten states that doesn't offer free textbooks. But the measure would have cost 95 million dollars a year.
