Senate Approves Energy Assistance Program Extension
(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana Senate has approved legislation that would extend an exemption of sales tax on payments made by participants in the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Block Grant Program.
The exemption was due to expire on July 1st, but it would be extended through June 30th, 2009 under the measure. Last year's exemption allowed an additional 10,000 households to receive benefits.
The bill now goes back to the Indiana House because it was amended in the state Senate.
