Pence Sees Tide Changing In Iraq Pullout
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Indiana Sixth District Representative Mike Pence says the tide may be shifting against a bill demanding a U.S. pullout from Iraq in a year-and-a-half.
Last week, the Senate rejected a similar resolution, calling for a pullout to start by mid-July. Senators Ben Nelson, Mark Pryor and Joe Lieberman joined all but one Republican--Oregon's Gordon Smith-- in opposing it.
Democrats' majority in the house is wider, but Pence, who opposes the pullout, says he's encouraged. Pence says he believes the debate has shifted to the proper roles of congress and the Commander-In-Chief, and suggest most Americans will conclude it's not Congress's job to micromanage the conduct of a war.
