(UNDATED) - Indiana’s largest religious-conservative lobbying group has rallied at the Statehouse against taxes and gay marriage.

21 legislators were among about a thousand people jamming the statehouse for Advance America's rally for what founder and former gubernatorial candidate Eric Miller calls three key issues facing the general assembly.

One, a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, needs only house approval to go to the voters next year. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-Lakeville) challenged House Speaker Patrick Bauer (D-South Bend) to see that it gets a vote. She notes Bauer promised a vote last October.

The House Rules Committee has held one hearing on the proposal but has not yet scheduled a vote on sending it to the full House.

Bauer and other legislators say they're concerned the second half of the amendment could have unintended consequences, such as invalidating domestic-violence laws. Supporters say they're misreading the language.

Miller's also urging supporters to lobby against any tax increases, and for the repeal of the property tax. A repeal proposal got a hearing this year but died in committee.
