(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer believes problems at Walter Reed Medical Center are being blown out of proportion. He made the comment during a stop Monday in West Lafayette.

Buyer is the ranking republican on the House Veteran's Affairs Committee and used to chair the panel.

The Washington Post has detailed poor living conditions at the medical center such as black mold, rotting ceiling openings, cockroaches and mice. He says the conditions at Walter Reed's building 18 are inexcusable, but insists it is an isolated problem.

Buyer says the situation has been complicated by the Department of Defense decision to replace Walter Reed with a new national military medical center.
