Bill Expands NIRPC Fundraising Abilities

Last updated on Tuesday, March 27, 2007

(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana Senate has approved a bill which would expand the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission’s ability to raise money.

Previously, the NIRPC was only allowed to gather cash from property taxes. Lake, Laporte and Porter counties will now be able to send money from other coffers to the group. That cash could come from riverboat proceeds, income taxes or excise taxes.

The NIRPC board will also be expanded from eight members to 11 under terms of the new rule.
