(STATEHOUSE) - Indiana may extend its voter ID law to absentee ballots.
Democratic opponents of the two-year-old photo ID requirement argue the most likely area for vote fraud is absentee voting, where the requirement doesn't apply.
Republican Senator Michael Young of Indianapolis says they're right. His bill would require absentee voters to put their ID number on the ballot application from any photo ID. If you don't have one, you could put the last four digits of your social security number.
A senate subcommittee has unanimously recommended passage of the bill, all but assuring it'll go to the full senate for a vote.
