(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Office of Technology wants Hoosiers to accept an apology.
This after a security breach of the state's website exposed thousands of credit card numbers. Nearly 6,000 numbers were compromised. The numbers came from Indiana residents who used their credit cards to pay for services like state professional licenses and copies of state government documents.
In what's being called an "outside job," a hacker was able to figure out how to access the credit card numbers stored at the www.in.gov website. The state is not recommending people who have used the website get their credit card numbers changed. They do insist that holders monitor their records for unauthorized transactions.
